One of the most significant aspects of Āsana course in the KYM tradition is the sequential flow into and out of postures – the use of Vinyāsa Krama. A versatile tool that offers a number of challenges for those who love working with the body, the use of breath led sequences in the Vinyāsa-s also improve concentration and attention span. Further, Vinyāsa based practices offer ample scope for bringing in a meditative aspect even to the practice of Āsana, enabling small pauses of stillness and awareness in the flow of movement. Designed to focus on a specific goal posture in every class, the Vinyāsa sequences will also focus on intensifying the effect of the postures used by incorporating a variety of techniques such as Sthiti, Krama, Bandhā, Mudrā and Mantra as appropriate.

This webinar series was anchored by senior faculty of the KYM, Ms. Sangeetha Kannan along with Mr. Arul Perumal.

The lotus which is one of the symbols associated with Nārāyaṇa represents the ability of the mind to reach perfection through Sādhana, inspite of being rooted in the material world. It is this transcendence of the ordinary that is the subtle purpose of Yoga.

Śrī T Krishnamacharya, a master of Yoga, legendary for his role in reviving and restoring Yoga to its previously acclaimed status, was at heart a fervent Bhakta, an unwavering devotee of Nārāyaṇa. His Vedantic anchoring deeply influenced his teachings, but he was nevertheless an open and broad-minded teacher who encouraged his students to find and seek their own personal Nārāyaṇa – in themselves.

The Department of Healing Chants of KYM offered this immersive experience into a variety of chants addressed to Nārāyaṇa, in his many forms, also attempting to explore the underlying significance of these chants as powerful contributors to physiological, cognitive and emotional well-being with a meditative practice that focuses on the light within.

Classes were held every Ekadaśi and was spread across 14 sessions. This webinar series was anchored by senior faculty of the KYM, Ms. Padmini Narendran and Ms. Bhooma Madhavan.

Chants Covered:

  • NārāyaṇaSūktam
  • ViṣnuSūktam
  • Atharvaśiropaniṣad
  • SudarśanaAśtakam
  • Select verses from Viṣṇusahasranāmam

Among the vast ocean of sacred literature in India, one text stands apart in many ways for its timeless wisdom and teachings that are always relevant – the Bhagavadgitā. As a text that also brings together many core principles of Yoga, the Bhagavadgīta always yields newer insights the more we delve into it.

This reflective meditative experience will take participants through a meditative practice integrated study of the core teachings of each chapter of the Bhagavadgīta, based on the Gītārtha Saṅgraha of Yamunacarya.

This 90 minute session was held every Ekādaśi in which one chapter was taken up for study and a meditative practice based on that chapter was given.

This programme was anchored by Nrithya Jagannathan, Director, KYM Institute of Yoga Studies.
