About the Book
‘Yoga Vallī,’ the commentary in Saṁskṛta for the Yogasūtra-s of Patañjali, by Yogācārya T Krishnamacharya (1888-1989) is unique. It contains the message of ‘Yoga Rahasya,’ a text on Yoga attributed to Yogi and Vaiṣṇavite Saint Nāthamuni (823 – 924 CE). The aim of Yoga is to attain the state of Samādhi, which is a state of perfect understanding leading to bliss. Of the various ways leading to Samādhi given in the Yogasūtra-s, Yoga Vallī strongly recommends ‘Īśvarapraṇidhāna’ as the only way to attain Samādhi. Essentially taken to mean a total submission at the feet of the Lord, the procedure consists of a meditative practice, using Praṇava (Om).
Yoga Vallī emphasises that the ‘Īśvara’ given in the Yogasūtra-s is ‘Nārāyaṇa’ along with ‘Goddess Lakṣmī.’
‘Praṇidhāna’ is done in the process of meditation, with focus on His form, which are found in the form of idols consecrated in the temples. His blessings bestow one with disease free life and realisation as well.
