Yogic Anatomy – A Two-week Intensive from KYM

Modern Medical Sciences have developed to such a phenomenal extent that in the 21st century, there is nearly no part of human anatomy and its dynamics that has not been studied and understood. In this context, it is significant that ancient Indian masters exhibited an acuity of knowledge about that human system, an understanding that is as practical and by no means redundant in the face of modern medical knowledge.

The ancient masters conceptualized the human system as comprising a complex arrangement of organs performing specific functions that were in turn, powered by subtle centres of energy that gave functionality to the system through an intricate system of energy channels. It was based on such an understanding of human anaomy that various practices of yoga evolved.

This two-week intensive aims as providing participants with an orientation to the principles of yogic anatomy and how to create practices that will optimize the functioning of the human system. This program includes:

  • asana practices based on the classification of asanas with regard to their effect on specific energy centres along the spine

  • basic principles of the system of nadi-s and cakra-s

  • an understanding of how these energy centres function and the accumulation of physical/mental impurites that affect the functioning of these energy centres

  • theoretical understanding of pranayama techniques that focus on cleansing the system at a deeper level

  • pranayama practices

  • meditative practices that focus on cleansing from within

  • use of mantra as a powerful tool in spiritual and emotional cleansing
